    • My son, who is now 2.5, went through a brief stage during which he would use a pacifier, and then quit. I think it was between 10 weeks and 5 months? My dh used to give it to him, I never did.

      My feeling about them is, it's important not to offer them too early, or they can mess up a baby's latch. It's also important not to offer them instead of the breast. Other than that, I think every parent should do what makes the baby happy. Sucking is very comforting and if your baby wants to suck more frequently than he wants to nurse, then offering a pacifier or your own fingers is fine. I don't think they are essential though, many babies get along fine without them.
